Muffa what?

Muffulettas are another New Orleans treat. Central Grocery takes the claim to fame for these scrumptous sandwiches.

Muffa-what? Yeah, that was my response too...it's basically a sandwich of Italian meats, cheese and an olive spread that's served on a large round italian bread. The bread loaf is probably 12"-14" round, and sandwiches are sold as a "whole" or a "half". The half was quite enough. (actually, after having the beignets for breakfast, I only ate 1/4 of the Muffeletta and saved the rest).

The muffulettas are served best with a Barq's root beer. I'm not generally a root beer fan, but since it was definitely recommended, I gave it a shot. The salty Italian meats and olive spread were awesome combination with the super sweet root beer. Definitely a great mix of the two extremes! Posted by Hello
